Thank you for your interest in attending the first annual Sister District Summit! We are thrilled to invite District Captains (and aspiring District Captains) from all across the country to come together in person in the beautiful Bay Area, where we launched Sister District, just over a year ago.
At the Summit, you will be able to celebrate SDP's shared victories, ground yourselves in this burgeoning movement, learn concrete skills, and build relationships with your fellow Sister District community members.
Like you, we are organizers. And we can think of no better way to spend a weekend than to organize with you, in person. We hope you can make it.
You can register for the summit online. Space is limited, and we encourage you to register early.
Summit registration is $25 and a group dinner on Saturday night is $45. These fees help us defray the costs of hosting the event. However, if cost is an issue, there is an option for you to register without cost, and an option for you to let us know if the cost of travel or lodging is an issue. We want to make sure that everyone who wants to participate is able to.
Several generous volunteers have also offered to cover costs for those who wish to attend but are financially constrained. If you would like to offer a donation for this purpose, you may do so during the registration process. If you would like to make a donation offline, please contact us via e-mail.

NOTE ON THE WOMEN'S MARCH
We are aware that the Women's March Oakland and the Women's March Bay Area in San Francisco and San Jose, are happening on Saturday, January 20, and we are excited to be meeting with all of you to take strategic action on this meaningful day. We are also looking into ways to participate in the march, while staying focused on our goals for the Summit.
We do not anticipate that the march will create any problems, but we do suggest allowing extra time for day-of travel, especially if commuting from outside of Oakland.
TRAVEL & accommodations
Basic Geography. The summit will be held in Oakland (East Bay, which also includes Berkeley). It's a reasonable commute on public transportation from San Francisco, and many attendees will be commuting from their homes to the Summit. Folks will also be commuting from the Peninsula (e.g., Palo Alto) and the South Bay (e.g., San Jose).
In summary, if you have a choice, stay in the East Bay. But if not, others will be commuting with you too!
Flights. Oakland International Airport (OAK) is the closest airport to the summit venue and the most convenient if you are staying in the East Bay (e.g., Oakland, Berkeley). San Francisco International Airport (SFO) is the most convenient for those staying in San Francisco proper. The San Jose airport (SJC) is about an hour away, so we don't recommend flying into San Jose unless you are staying in the South Bay.
Staying with Friends and Family. Many attendees will be staying with friends and family who live in the Bay Area. Many Sister District volunteers have also offered to host out-of-town guests at their homes. If you are interested in staying with a Sister District volunteer, please just let us know on the official registration form, and we will get back to you to confirm details.
Hotel block. If you would like to stay in a hotel, we have a small block of rooms on hold at the Oakland Marriott City Center near the summit location until December 29, 2017. Please use this link to make a reservation.
